DTF printing: Let textile printing embrace the new digital era
How many options can you think of when it comes to textile printing?
Dye sublimation printing, screen printing, heat transfer vinyl, DTG (direct to garment), DTF (direct to film), and so on, the list is endless with all kinds of printing options. The diversity of production also gives consumers more choice.
But have you noticed the current shift in the direction of the market? In today's human-centered consumer market, consumers are increasingly seeking personalized, emotional goods and are no longer satisfied with generic, mass-produced goods. Coupled with the rapid development of information technology, an internet-driven ecosystem of mass personalization is being formed. More and more people are learning how to use design software, which is generating innovation. Demand for customization is strong and the equipment market is proposing a revolutionary answer.
It is in this environment that the DTF printing solution was born.
DTF means direct-to-film, which, as the name suggests, means print onto film. That is a PET film with a special coating that attracts DTF ink, giving it a fixed shape, before being transferred to the textile by heat press. In this respect, DTF is more similar to dye sublimation in that neither printing process takes place directly on the fabric.
However, DTF printing offers greater flexibility than dye sublimation. This is because the film transfer is stable and can be stored for long periods without dye migration or moisture affecting the transfer during storage. This is a unique factor that makes DTF solutions attractive in the long term to retailers looking for smaller stocks and greater flexibility.
Alternatively, as a merchant, you can even engage in purely printing work and simply send the printed film to the customer, who will complete the subsequent heat transfer steps themselves, as a way of increasing consumer engagement with personalization.
Another important factor that is often raised is speed.
It is well known that DTG printing has always addressed the issue of speed. However, regardless of the speed of the print, DTG still places the output at or near the end of the production process. Before it can be "printed", it has to go through a long and complex pre-processing process.
In this respect, DTF printing has a clear advantage. DTF printing is essentially a print-on-demand application that allows you to print the pattern as soon as it is designed, increasing productivity and saving labour costs.
In the digital age, DTF printing can be flexible and quick to meet your production needs, reliably bringing you greater economic benefits. In the future, innovation in DTF technology will continue to grow and come from all directions.
